PERSPECTIVE—
(Begins at 00:12:58)
This week on A Different Perspective, Doc talks about thyroid hormones. How are they made? What impact do they have on the body? Why is our common perception about this little gland, Hashimoto’s, and Graves’ so misunderstood? Doc covers it all and leaves you with a different perspective and a greater understanding of the thyroid.
- Review (previous recap link): when should women work out? Most people don’t know. Even after testing hormones.
- We don’t have thyroid problems because our bodies lack Synthroid or levothyroxine
- Sex hormone-binding globulin and thyroxine binding-globulin you may have a bad thyroid because you have high estrogens
- TSH is the most common test, but it’s not a thyroid hormone—it is a pituitary hormone.
- Hypothyroidism
- We see the message—T3, T4, etc. but where’s the messenger? We’re not addressing the source.
- Top 10 autoimmune issues
- Your body did not make a mistake!
- If there’s a cause, there’s a way to reverse it. If the body made a mistake, there’s nothing you can do. That thinking is incorrect.
- “Why did it attack just this organ?” If it was a mistake, why isn’t it happening everywhere?
- How thyroid hormones are made:
- Every organ has waste products during its processes. The thyroid’s waste is hydrogen peroxide. If you’re low on certain nutrients, the body won’t be able to clear it, and hydrogen peroxide isn’t supposed to be there. So, the immune response is called in to clean it up.
- Selenium:
- Used to make the calming hormone glutathione
- Majority is stored in the thyroid
- Used to produce Selenoproteins
- Used in the production of glutathione peroxidase
- Needed for mercury detoxification
- Used in the conversion of T4 – T3
- Needed to clear the hydrogen peroxide
Liver Health and the Thyroid
- Thyroid hormone is converted in the liver and kidneys. Liver health is the key to thyroid production.
- How often is “your T3 is low because your liver is fatty” said?
- How to reduce fatty liver
- Cut sugar intake
- Start eating choline
- Eggs – Yolks
- Beef Liver
- Caviar
- Fish – Salmon
- Ground Beef
- Chickpeas
- Hydrogen peroxide, hair color, and thyroid diseases. What happens when you apply hydrogen peroxide to hair? It turns it white or gray-ish, which is often something people with Hashimoto’s and Graves’ experience.
Selenium—mercury detoxification.
- Sources of mercury:
- Vaccines
- Dental Fillings
- Fish
- Fluorescent Light Bulbs
- Mercury Thermometers
- Cosmetics
- Air Pollution
- How much should I be taking in?
- More when you have Hashimoto’s, or other stressors
- Best sources of selenium:
- Brazil Nuts
- Why Doc doesn’t suggest Brazil nuts for selenium: highest in phytic acid
- Phytic acid drains:
- Selenium
- Zinc
- Iron
- Magnesium
- Calcium
- Chromium
- Copper
- Tuna
- Sardines
- Organ Meats
- Meats
- Eggs
- If you can’t, bioactive selenium
- Brazil Nuts
- Autoimmune issues. Your body didn’t make a mistake! With your current perspective and guidance, you have been convinced you have healthy tissue; but your immune system recognizes you have sick, abnormal, damaged tissue and does a great job of eliminating it, because it’s intelligent!
