PERSPECTIVE—
This week, on A Different Perspective, Dr. Jeremy discusses the difference between food hypersensitivities and allergies. Is there a difference? Why IgG and IgE allergies present differently? What other kinds of allergies are there?
(Begins at 00:04:00)
- Hypersensitivity vs allergens
- A big trigger for ADHD, ADD, and higher anxiety in kids can be allergies. They produce a massive histamine response which impacts a lot of other systems.
- “My doctor said they’re the same thing.” You may want to get a new doctor because they don’t understand basic immunology. If you pick up an immune textbook or study, you will see the term used interchangeably.
- Allergy types:
- Type 1. Immediate – IgE
- Type 2. Cytotoxic – IgG and IgM
- Type 3. Immune complex – IgG, IgA, IgM
- Type 4. Cell-mediated – Delayed – T cells and Macrophages
- What is an IgE?
- Immunoglobulin E (IgE) are antibodies produced by the immune system. If you have an allergy, your immune system overreacts to an allergen by producing antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE). These antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals, causing an allergic reaction. This reaction usually causes symptoms in the nose, lungs, throat, or on the skin. Each type of lgE has specific “radar” for each type of allergen. That’s why some people are only allergic to cat dander (they only have the IgE antibodies specific to cat dander); while others have allergic reactions to multiple allergens because they have many more types of IgE antibodies.
- Anaphylaxis is a type one hypersensitivity
- Although IgE is typically the least abundant isotype—blood serum IgE levels in a normal (“non-atopic”) individual are only 0.05% of the lg concentration, compared to 75% for the IgGs at 10 mg/ml, and are the isotypes responsible for most of the classical adaptive immune response it is capable of triggering anaphylaxis, one of the most rapid and severe immunological reactions.
- Prevalence of IgG-mediated food intolerance among patience with allergy symptoms
- We all have IgG allergies. A small percentage of us have IgE allergies.
- Delayed response symptoms
- Headaches
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Gas
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Fatigue
- Bloating
- Mood changes
- Dark circles under the eyes
- Sinus congestion
- Aching muscles and joints
- Feeling drained of energy
- Seizures
- Hyperactivity
- Stomach pain
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Mood swings
- Restlessness
- Itchy, watery eyes
- Insomnia
- Excessive mucous
- Cravings
- Weight gain
- Itching
- Hay fever
- Sneezing attacks
- Stuffy nose
- Poor concentration
- Most people probably deal with at least one of these on a regular basis.
- One of the reasons we have allergies is that our GI and gut health is just destroyed.
- The way things are supposed to work is that the proteins we eat are to be broken down into amino acids by stomach acid. The amino acids go downstream and are absorbed. The body uses the amino acids to make its own proteins.
- If our stomach acid isn’t good, or we have food floating around the bloodstream due to leaky gut, it’s going to cause problems.
- Support gut health and digestion

This week, on A Different Perspective, Dr. Jeremy wraps up the week by explaining why getting allergies tested only does so much. Dr. Jeremy also goes into why it’s important to get IgG allergies tested, even though they don’t present as obviously as IgE allergies.
(00:44:21)
- Allergies are hypersensitivities. Hypersensitivities are allergies.
- IgG allergies can create so many problems because they create chronic inflammation.
- We will test and tell you the answers. What you do with that is up to you. Your health is up to you.
