About The Wellness Way in Grand Rapids, Michigan

We understand that common is not normal, and unlike the restrictive healthcare mentality, we dig deeper to find answers to life-restricting health challenges.

We focus on overcoming the three main causes of interference in the body — trauma, toxins, and thoughts — to go beyond symptom-based care and address your unique physiology in a way that allows your mind and body to find an individualized path back to better health.

We don’t guess, we test; rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, we utilize the most in-depth testing and cutting-edge diagnostic tools to uncover the hidden sources of health problems.

We provide the essential guidance to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles through a combination of testing, individual plans, and one-on-one guidance to restore your body to total wellness.

The Wellness Way – Grand Rapids

Dr. Gates Maier grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana passionate about 2 things, baseball and health, both of which he has a striving passion for today in Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. Gates Maier is a board-certified Doctor of Chiropractic and has always strived to empower his patient’s to live life to the fullest by taking back control of their health.

After high school Dr. Gates attended Indiana University where he studied Pre-Med and Kinesiology. After his undergraduate Dr. Gates pursued his Doctorate degree in Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA.

Much of Dr. Gates’ passion stems from being in severe lower back pain after injuries. This kept him from enjoying sports with friends and feeling normal””. His sister suggested seeing a chiropractor, which changed his life completely! From the time he entered school he knew he was going to learn as much as he could to help his patients get back to living their life to the fullest and doing anything and everything they set their hearts on. After realizing the human body doesn’t make mistakes and is capable of healing itself, Dr. Gates became persistent on making sure others didn’t have to go years without answers to their health concerns. For that reason, Dr. Gates studied with some of the top chiropractors in the profession while going through school.

While completing his doctorate, Dr. Gates trained for 2 years under a world recognized spine and extremity expert, Dr. Mitch Mally, who addresses the foot, knee, hip, leg length difference, wrist, elbow, arm and TMJ. Near the end of his schooling Dr. Gates also got a unique opportunity granted to only the highest level of students for an internship at the Chillicothe VA hospital in the Chiropractic wing for 6 months taking care of our nations veterans. During that time Dr. Gates realized he could do more for his patients with The Wellness Way principles. Dr. Gates was able to have great mentors such as Dr. Patrick Flynn and Dr. Greg Abbott guiding him to better understand the body as a whole and more importantly that the body does not make mistakes! With passion Dr. Gates is extremely excited to bring these same principles to Grand Rapids, Michigan so people can take back control of their health and optimize their health getting them back to doing what they love. Dr. Gates is extremely passionate as a doctor to help patients remove anything obstructing their healing and facilitate that healing, unlocking the powerful potential that each body was made with!

About Our Events

What is your definition of health? At The Wellness Way, we recognize that most people have been conditioned to believe how modern-day healthcare practices are the experts of restoration and preventative medicine. However, our perception of the way the body functions differs from what is traditionally taught. Therefore, we conduct regular informational events to communicate how we view various systems in the human body. Our take on subjects such as hormones, inflammation, autoimmunity, metabolic syndrome, cancer, thyroid health, etc., strays away from “traditional” aspects. We value our patients’ ability to engage with their healthcare journey, which is why we hope by attending these events they achieve accountability and can take charge of their own bodies for a healthier future.
