In a world with a McDonalds on every corner, rising obesity rates, and increased chronic illness, we need more wellness ninjas. You can be a wellness ninja! According to Webster Merriam Dictionary, a ninja is a person trained in ancient Japanese martial arts and employed especially for espionage and assassinations. To be a wellness ninja, you have to train yourself and be willing to blow up the current thinking on health and wellness in this country. Are you in?
Of course, you are in. You wouldn’t be getting this message if you weren’t already chosen for the path of wellness. Being a wellness ninja isn’t going to be easy, but it will be worth it. You are going to have to work on yourself every day. You didn’t think ninjas became a legend watching TV and eating Cheetos, did you?
The 5 Things Every Wellness Ninja Needs to Know.
1- Nobody Sees A Wellness Ninja Coming
There are those who talk about getting healthy and there are those who get healthy. Don’t spend all your time and energy talking about getting healthy. Put your energy in the work that you need to do to get yourself there. If you are busy talking about it, there are too many opportunities for someone to talk you out of it- sometimes you even talk yourself out of health! Just do it! One day, you will look in the mirror and see a healthier version of yourself!
2 -A Wellness Ninja Eats right
Mostly this boils down to shopping and cooking right. You can’t be healthy if you are still eating crap food. Yeah, I’ve heard it before, “everything in moderation.” Moderation is just an emotional justification for eating something bad. Buy good food, have it on hand before you are hungry, and learn to prepare it. Sometimes the whole preparing it doesn’t work out so great, that’s ok. Food doesn’t have to always taste good to nourish you! Have healthy food on hand and eat it.
3- A Wellness Ninja Masters Their Weapons
A wellness ninja chooses their weapons and then masters them. You don’t need fancy weapons to get healthy. Choose ones you have access to. Your weapons can be your running shoes, weights, water bottle, veggie spiralizer or whatever you will use to build a healthy lifestyle. It doesn’t have to be fancy but one of those nice blenders helps. Especially if you are not good at that cooking thing. You can blend all your fruits and veggies for a smoothie that’s easy to swallow.
The important thing to remember is not to wait until you have the perfect tools to be healthy. Use what you have and don’t wait for that Stairmaster to come. Use what is accessible to you. Whatever your health weapons are, master them to master your health game.
4- A Wellness Ninja Knows Their Enemy
You can’t defend yourself against an enemy unless you know who it is. The destroyers of health all fall under three categories: toxins, traumas, and thoughts. So it’s important to watch out for enemies that fall in those categories and help your body heal from the ones you can’t avoid. Everything from the everyday chemicals on foods to the stresses we experience while we are doing life.
You also need to know that everybody is different so what might not be harmful to one person might be very harmful to another. That is why it is so important to get tested to see what is impacting your body and to get your food allergies tested. Kale might be healthy but not for you. Know your enemy so you can see it sneaking up on you. Sneaky kale.
5- A Wellness Ninja is Always True to Themselves
You are the only one you have to answer to on this health journey. Build a body where you want live because it’s the only place you have to live! If you are trying to be healthy for anyone else- it’s not going to work. When you try to be healthy for anyone else, you let yourself down. If you are healthy for you then you are going to have a much higher chance of success.
Also, know that healthy you is different than healthy Sally down the street. We all aren’t built the same. Be the healthiest version of you that you can be.
Walking the Path of Health
It’s not always going to be easy. It’s sometimes hardest as you start the first steps. If you are just starting your health journey go easy on yourself and remember the most important thing is to start somewhere. You can’t undo years of unhealthy choices overnight.
If you have been on this health journey for a while and you take a step in the wrong direction just turn yourself around. Get right back in the right direction. Don’t throw our all your hard work for one misstep. In a world of Big Macs and Taco Hells, we need more wellness ninjas.
